The outdoortrophy 2011

Extreme sports at its best: the outdoor sport world elite competed in a thrilling anniversary

Lingenau – 13 August 2011. What an anniversary race! The enthusiastic fans along the course of the tenth outdoortrophy in Lingenau/Austria witnessed world class performances by the athletes. 140 international athletes competed in perfect weather and with great air and water conditions.

The mountain running world elite began the race with a distance of 12km and an altitude gain of no less than 1’100 meters. Vice world champion Azarya Weldemariam from Eritrea (Team Virgo X-Pro) and the Kenyan Grossglockner champion Isaak Kosgei (Rossignol, Austrialpin, Kohla) started out with an impressive pace. After just 1:01:51, Kosgei was the first runner to reach the mountain top, 24 seconds ahead of Weldemariam and impressive four and a half minutes ahead of last year’s record time. Austrian Markus Hohenwarter (Team Red Bull) came in third (+3:25 min), followed by the former world champion Markus Schiessl (Germany, Landrover Team Hörburger). The Czech winners of 2010, OpavaNet, ranked fifth after the mountain run.

Thrilling race
Two teams were fighting for the lead in a thrilling competition: Virgo X-Pro paraglider Markus Prantl (Italy) overtook Lorenz Peer (Team Rossignol, Austrialpin, Kohla) and handed over to the multiple Austrian kayak champion Gerhard Schmid. In the rapids of Bregenzerach river, Schmid was able to extend the lead of his team. He finished 1:30 minutes ahead of Austrian white water vice world champion Manuel Filzwieser. The big showdown came with the last leg of the unofficial world championship in outdoor sports – mountain biking: The former world champion Massimo Debertolis (Italy) started 1:30 minutes behind multiple outdoortrophy champion Hannes Pallhuber (Italy) and tried to chase him. But Pallhuber was too fast: He finished first, securing the new record time of three hours, thirty minutes and ten seconds for his team Virgo X-Pro – more than three minutes faster than last year’s record time! Debertolis came in 6:05 minutes after the winning team, the French Salzkammergut-Trophy-winner Thomas Dietsch secured the third place for Team Red Bull. Landrover Team Hörburger came in fourth, followed by the Czech team OpavaNet.

Best company team: Munich fire fighters
The team Virgosystem rrracing from Lower Austria was the fastest amateur team with a time of four hours and eleven minutes. Austrian-German team Glock Perfection came in second. The Munich fire fighters were the fastest company team. The extreme sports ladies proved to be tough enough, too: The Virgo Racing Girls won with a great time of 5:19:08.
